Wood and Paper Product Manufacturing Careers

People who work in wood and paper product manufacturing jobs help to turn logs cut from forests into timber, pulp or paper products. Work may include; planning and managing the production process, operating machinery, checking the quality of goods produced and maintaining machinery, tools and equipment.
Industrial Measurement and Control Technician
Industrial measurement and control technicians install, maintain and repair equipment used to measure and control production processes. They may work in a range of industries including food processing, pulp and paper processing, brewing, petrochemical industries and power generation.
Process Engineer (Chemical)
Process or chemical engineers design, develop and operate processes and equipment that are used to change raw materials into useful products. Chemical engineering covers a wide variety of jobs such as environmental engineering, biochemical engineering and waste engineering, and chemical engineers are often known as process engineers to indicate the wide range of jobs that they do.
Production Manager
Production managers organise and control the production of goods in a factory. They ensure that products are made to customers' specifications and delivered on time.
Production Planner
Production planners plan timetables and organise materials to ensure the smooth running of a factory.
Pulp and Paper Production Worker
Pulp and paper production workers operate machinery and equipment involved in the pulp and paper production process.
Saw Doctor
Saw doctors repair and sharpen hand, chain, band and circular saws.
Sawmill Manager
Sawmill managers organise and control the production of timber products in a sawmill.
Sawmill Operator
Sawmill operators perform practical tasks in a sawmill or timber yard, which may include operating machinery to cut and process logs into timber.
Timber Grader
Timber graders examine dressed or rough-sawn timber and classify it according to quality and size.
Timber Machinist
Timber machinists set up and operate specialised woodworking machinery to transform basic wood products into finished products such as finger-jointed skirting board, planed timber for furniture and joinery, or surfaced lumber for export.
