Mining and Quarrying
The mining and quarrying industry is made up of a range of jobs involved in, discovery, and extraction, processing of materials, such as minerals, metals, aggregates and coal.
- Geologist
- Geologists study the structure and history of the Earth and earth processes. They also give advice on natural hazards and the development and use of the Earth's resources and land.
- Heavy Truck Driver
- Heavy truck drivers drive trucks with or without trailers. They transport materials, livestock, machinery, liquids, general freight, and sometimes hazardous substances.
- Mine Manager
- Mine managers plan, organise and co-ordinate activities in a mine. They may be responsible for one area of a mining operation such as production, maintenance or transport.
- Miner
- Miners operate machinery and equipment to extract and remove coal and minerals from underground and surface mines.
- Mining Engineer
- Mining engineers plan, prepare, design and manage the development of opencast (above ground) or underground mines.
- Natural Resources Engineer
- Natural resources engineers analyse natural resources such as the water, land, soil, plants and animals. They design technologies and systems that minimise the environmental impact of development and use natural resources in efficient and sustainable ways.
- Quarry Manager
- Quarry managers manage the overall operation of removing and processing stones, rocks and minerals from a quarry.
- Quarry Worker
- Quarry workers remove minerals, rocks and stone from a quarry site, and usually process them further into roading or construction aggregate, industrial or agricultural lime, or into a commercial ingredient for a product (such as paint fillers).
