Health Administration and Support Careers

People working in health administration and support roles help with the day-to-day running of health services such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and care facilities, or medical centres.
Admissions Officer
Admissions officers arrange the registration, admission, discharge and bed transfer of patients at a hospital. They also book patients in for elective surgery and maintain waiting lists.
Ambulance Officer
Ambulance officers attend to ill and injured people at accident sites or in medical emergencies, and transport them to hospitals and other suitable medical facilities. They also provide non-urgent transport for patients between hospitals and from homes to hospitals.
Clinical Coder
Clinical coders translate descriptions of diseases, injuries and procedures from patient discharge records into health classification codes. These codes are used for health information statistics.
First Aid Tutor
First aid tutors facilitate first aid learning and knowledge.
Health and Safety Officer
Health and safety officers monitor workplace health and safety risks and hazards, and advise workers and managers on how to minimise or eliminate these risks and hazards. Some may also carry out nursing duties.
Health Care Assistant
Health care assistants work under the supervision of registered nurses. They assist nurses and other health professionals to carry out a variety of tasks for sick or elderly patients.
Health Promoter
Health promoters work with communities and groups to plan and develop ways to help people improve and manage their health. They also work with government and other agencies to improve environmental conditions that contribute to ill health.
Health Services Manager
Health services managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of a hospital, primary health organisation, clinic or community health service.
Hospital Orderly
Hospital orderlies assist medical staff, and transport patients, medical equipment and supplies to and from wards and departments in hospitals.
Laundry Worker
Laundry workers wash, dry, press, fold and return laundry to customers.
Medical/Dental Receptionist
Medical and dental receptionists perform clerical duties, greet and make appointments for patients in medical or dental reception areas.
Rest Home Manager
Rest home managers are responsible for running homes for elderly people and overseeing the care of rest home residents.
