Marine Construction Careers

Marine construction involves building and refitting boats, which may include; pleasure craft, such as yachts, and super yachts. Work boats, such as fishing boats. Aluminium and fibreglass vessels.
Aluminium Joiner
Aluminium joiners make aluminium products such as doors and window frames.
Architectural Technician
Architectural technicians interpret sketches and designs produced by an architect, architectural designer or client. They make working drawings, such as floor plans, elevations, sections and details, and associated documentation of buildings. These are used to obtain resource and building consents, and for pricing and construction purposes by builders.
Boat Builder
Boat builders make and repair sailing, fishing, pleasure and motor boats. They may also design vessels or assist naval architects with the design of vessels.
Cabinet Maker
Cabinet makers make and repair furniture for homes, businesses and boats.
Carpenter
Carpenters work on-site building, repairing and installing structures such as foundations, walls, roofs, windows and doors in large and small buildings.
Composite Engineer
Composite engineers produce and repair fibreglass products for industrial, architectural, marine and automotive use.
Diver
Divers work underwater and do a variety of tasks such as construction work, rescuing property from wrecked ships, commercial seafood gathering, photography, exploration and police work, and dive instructing. They may work close to shore (inshore), out at sea (offshore), or in lakes or rivers.
Electrician
Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical wiring and equipment.
Engineering Draughts Person
Engineering draughts people make plans and drawings of structures or machines.
Fabrication Engineer (Heavy)
Heavy fabrication engineers use thick metal plates, pipes and shaped pieces (sections) of metal to make and repair things such as the framework of buildings, ship hulls, bridges, boilers, storage tanks and cranes.
Fabrication Engineer (Welding)
Welding fabrication engineers make, join and repair metal parts for machinery and equipment such as motor bodies, trailer units, containers, truck frames and bridges.
Joiner
Joiners measure, cut, prepare and assemble timber and timber board products to make interior fittings such as kitchen cabinets, doors, window frames and stairs.
Marine Engineer
Marine engineers build, maintain, service and repair engines, as well as mechanical and electronic equipment on board a variety of vessels.
Moulder
Moulders use sand to make moulds, which they use to produce metal castings.
Naval Architect
Naval architects plan, design and supervise the construction and repair of ships, yachts and pleasure craft. They may also be employed in the off-shore industry, doing work such as the design and construction of oil rigs.
Sheet Metal Engineer
Sheet metal engineers make, install and repair sheet metal products such as vents, machine guards, roof flashings and aircraft parts.
Upholsterer
Upholsterers make, install and attach the springs, padding, linings and covers of furniture and vehicles. They may also make canvas products.
