Food and Beverage Manufacturing Careers
Work in food and beverage manufacturing includes; producing fresh and processed food such as meat and cheese, winemaking and brewing, baking, research and development of new products and packaging products.
- Baker
- Bakers prepare, bake and decorate bread, rolls, pastries, cakes and other yeast goods.
- Biotechnologist
- Biotechnologists create or improve products and processes involving biologically based materials. Examples of typical products include pharmaceuticals and more nutritious foods. Typical processes biotechnologists are involved in include fermentation, biomanufacturing, solving environmental problems, food manufacture and even biosecurity.
- Brewer
- Brewers use science and brewing equipment to convert malted barley or other grains into beer.
- Brewery Worker
- Brewery workers do a variety of tasks in the production and packaging of beer.
- Butcher
- Butchers cut, prepare and sell meat in a butcher's shop or a supermarket.
- Dairy Process Operator
- Dairy process operators operate machines to produce dairy products such as cheese, butter, yoghurt and milk powder.
- Factory Worker (Food and Beverage Industry)
- Factory workers in the food and beverage industry prepare ingredients, operate machinery, and bottle or package products. They work in factories that make or process a variety of food or drinks.
- Food Engineer
- Food engineers design, develop and test processes and processing equipment for food processing factories.
- Food Scientist/Technologist
- Food scientists/technologists research new food and beverage products, and develop ways to produce and improve the quality of these products. They may also develop or improve the processing, packaging, storage and safety of food in accordance with government and industry standards.
- Industrial Measurement and Control Technician
- Industrial measurement and control technicians install, maintain and repair equipment used to measure and control production processes. They may work in a range of industries including food processing, pulp and paper processing, brewing, petrochemical industries and power generation.
- Meat Grader
- Meat graders grade and classify meat that is to be sold on local and international markets.
- Meat Inspector
- Meat inspectors ensure that animal meat products are fit for human consumption through the investigation and examination of animals, animal carcasses and animal parts.
- Meat Processor
- Meat processors carry out a variety of tasks in the processing of animals for local and overseas markets. The animals processed may include sheep, cattle, deer, pigs and goats.
- Miller (Grain)
- Grain millers control and operate machinery to mix, mill and treat grains and by-products to produce flour or stock feed.
- Molecular Biologist
- Molecular biologists study genes in living organisms and try to determine why they behave the way they do. Molecular biologists mainly work in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, forestry, fisheries, biotechnology and human health. Their work often leads to new or improved vaccines, pharmaceuticals, food products, and agricultural processes.
- Process Engineer (Chemical)
- Process or chemical engineers design, develop and operate processes and equipment that are used to change raw materials into useful products. Chemical engineering covers a wide variety of jobs such as environmental engineering, biochemical engineering and waste engineering, and chemical engineers are often known as process engineers to indicate the wide range of jobs that they do.
- Production Manager
- Production managers organise and control the production of goods in a factory. They ensure that products are made to customers' specifications and delivered on time.
- Production Planner
- Production planners plan timetables and organise materials to ensure the smooth running of a factory.
- Seafood Processor (At-Sea)
- Seafood processors work in the factory of a deep-sea fishing vessel to prepare seafood and seafood products for sale.
- Seafood Processor (Onshore)
- Onshore seafood processors prepare seafood and seafood products for sale. This includes skinning, filleting, trimming and packing the seafood.
- Technical Manager
- Technical managers are responsible for the quality and performance of equipment, projects, products and technology in their workplace.
- Seafood Supervisor (At-sea)
- At-sea seafood supervisors work in the factory of a deep-sea fishing vessel and supervise and assist with the preparation of seafood and seafood products for sale.
