Demonstrator
Tasks & duties

Demonstrators may do some or all of the following:

plan how to demonstrate the goods or services
-
set up and display products at shops, supermarkets or in homes
-
explain the uses of the product and answer questions
-
give out vouchers for products
-
invite people to try out or taste the products
-
invite customers to purchase the products
-
keep a record of sales
-
stock shelves with the product
-
write a report on the demonstration for their employer
-
promote new lines of products and products on special
Skills & knowledge
Demonstrators need to have:
-
knowledge of the product or service they are demonstrating
-
knowledge of display, sales, and demonstration techniques
-
good communication and listening skills
-
good presentation skills
-
planning, organisational and time management skills for organising weekly schedules
-
a good memory for informing people about the products they are promoting
Demonstrators displaying food also need to have knowledge of food safety and hygiene, and awareness of health and safety protocol in the veunes where they are demonstrating.
Entry requirements
At least three years of secondary education is required to become a demonstrator. Useful subjects include English and maths.
Training on the job
Demonstrators gain their skills on the job. Demonstration companies may send their staff on training courses.
Useful experience
It is useful for demonstrators to have worked with the product they are demonstrating, or in the industry that produces it. A background in sales, retail or homemaking is also useful.
